A Journey into the Depths of the Mind: From Neurons to Behavior

Welcome to the Brain and Cognition Laboratory at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Tehran. Under the leadership of Dr. Javad Hatami, our lab provides a dynamic and pioneering environment for students and researchers to explore the mysteries of the human and animal mind utilizing state-of-the-art technology.

We believe that understanding cognition requires a comprehensive, multifaceted approach. Consequently, our laboratory is structured around two specialized sections: each offering a unique perspective on the enigma of the mind.

 

Structure and Specialized Domains

Our research activities are organized into three main subdivisions:

  • Neurocognition: In this section, we investigate the neural bases of cognitive functions. Using advanced equipment, we monitor the links between brain activities and processes such as attention, memory, decision-making  and etc.


 

  • Extended Cognition: The human mind is not confined within the skull. This section is dedicated to study the complex interaction between the mind, body, and the surrounding environment, examining how tools and settings extend our cognitive capacities.
  • Comparative Cognition: In the animal section of the lab, we take a comparative approach to examine the evolutionary roots of cognition across different species, gaining a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of behavior and mind.

To realize our research goals, the Brain and Cognition Laboratory is equipped with a suite of modern, specialized technology providing a robust platform for designing and executing complex experiments:

  • Electroencephalography (EEG) and Event related Potential Recording systems
  • Eye-tracking Systems
  • Virtual Reality (VR) Systems
  • Neurofeedback/Biofeedback
  • Transcranial Electrical Stimulation device
